Tucson’s top procurement officer has been pegged to lead an international group of her peers.
Marcheta Gillespie, director of the city’s Procurement Department, was recently elected president of the Board of Directors for the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing.
Gillespie, a 22-year city employee, will now guide the non-profit Institute in its mission of promoting, developing and supporting folks in the public procurement profession.
Gillespie said she’s honored by the designation and considers it an opportunity to give back to a profession she adores.
“I have derived tremendous value from being a part of NIGP, which I have been able to apply directly to improving the City of Tucson Department of Procurement and the services we provide to the Tucson community,” Gillespie said in an email. “I look forward to an exciting year of not only representing NIGP and the public procurement profession, but also representing the great City of Tucson.”
NIGP has over 16,000 members, representing 2,600 agencies throughout North America.
