Rio Nuevo’s renovation of the Tucson Convention Center starts Monday.

Once the $7.8 million project is complete, visitors can expect to see improvements in seating, concession areas, restrooms and more.

Officials are ready for the long-awaited project to move forward.

"We are excited to get this project started and committed to a revitalized arena the city can be proud of,” Rio Nuevo Chairman Fletcher McCusker said in a press release.

Repairs should wrap up sometime in December 2014.

Even though visitors will appreciate the modest improvements to the crumbling arena, a recent audit pointed out the TCC would need at least $100 million worth of improvements if it wants to compete nationally again.
