The infant who died after being left in a car may have been there for as long as eight hours, Tucson police said Thursday.

About 5:19 p.m. Tuesday, police were called to a parking lot at a shopping plaza at East Grant and North Country Club roads for a report of an unconscious infant, according to a news release from the department.

At the scene, police found a father and his 7-month-old daughter, who the police identified as Isabel Ledo Herrera.

The Tucson Fire Department was on scene to treat Isabel, but department spokesman Capt. Barrett Baker said she was already unresponsive when paramedics arrived. She was taken to the University of Arizona Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The Dependent Child Unit is continuing the investigation, police said. After examining evidence and interviewing the involved family, detectives confirmed that the father was unaware of his daughter’s presence in the car.

No arrests have been made.
