Police investigators collected evidence after a fatal drive-by shooting in front of Maloney’s in August.

A drive-by shooting early Wednesday on North Fourth Avenue left a 25-year-old man dead, police said.

The man died after being left at a hospital with multiple gunshot wounds, police said. He was identified as Rogelio Zarate, 25.

Zarate was left at St. Mary’s Hospital shortly after 2:30 a.m., less than 10 minutes after police were dispatched to Fourth Avenue to investigate reports of gunfire, said Sgt. Pete Dugan, a Tucson police spokesman.

No one stayed at the hospital with Zarate, Dugan said.

Police said officers found several people who said they saw gunfire coming from a vehicle driving south on Fourth Avenue between Eighth and Ninth streets.

It was unclear if the occupants of the car were firing at another vehicle or at someone in the area.

Police closed Fourth Avenue in both directions for several hours in front Maloney’s Tavern, between Eighth and Ninth streets. They said witnesses are asked to call 911 or 88-CRIME.
