A motorcyclists was critically injured Sunday night in a crash near the intersection of Cochise Canyon Trail and Arrow Shard Avenue, near the Marana Road exit of Interstate 10, said Capt. Adam Goldberg of Northwest Fire District.

A 25-year-old motorcyclist was critically injured late Sunday night when he lost control and crashed northwest of Tucson, officials say.

Marana Police Department and Northwest Fire District responded to the intersection of Cochise Canyon Trail and Arrow Shard Avenue near the Marana Road exit of Interstate 10 at about 11:44 a.m.

The male rider lost control of his bike and crashed, said Capt. Adam Goldberg of Northwest Fire District.

The rider was taken by helicopter to University of Arizona Medical Center. He was not wearing a helmet, Goldberg said.

Marana police are investigating the cause of the incident.Β
