A 35-year-old Tucson man was arrested Friday in connection with a school bush crash that occurred as he was allegedly fleeing the scene of a robbery, authorities said.
Jesus Albert Serrano Jr.ย was booked into the Pima County jail on charges of burglary, theft and possession of narcotics, with additional charges pending, said Marana Police Department spokesman Sgt. Chris Warren.
Shortly before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, police responded to the area ofย North Adonis Road and West Cochie Canyon Trail, east of Interstate 10 and Marana Road, to reports of a collision involving aย Marana Unified School Bus and a Kia Sol, Warren said.
Callers reported that the driver of the Kia fled the scene, but responding officers were able to locate the man, identified as Serrano, and took him into custody.
No injuries were reported among the driver and 23 students on board the school bus, but Northwest Fire Department evaluated everyone for precautionary measures, Warren said.
Serrano was the only occupant of the Kia and was uninjured.
He is believed to be responsible for the burglary of a home on the 11000 block of Caliche Drive, during which, he parked the Kia Sol inside the garage, Warren said.
When the owner came home, surprising Serrano, he is believed to have driven the Kia through the closed garage door while attempting to escape, before crashing into the school bus at the intersection a short distance away, Warren said.
Investigators have determined that the driver of the school bus was not at fault.
