The city of Tucson has released hundreds of names related to an ongoing investigation into a suspected illegal massage parlor ring that operated in Tucson for more than three years.
Investigators suspect that some of the names or nicknames are people with direct ties to the business, called By Spanish. Others were simply in the mobile contact lists stored in phones that were part of the investigation or were seized in the Jan. 27 raid of six locations of By Spanish.
"The inclusion of information in this list is in no way indicative of involvement in criminal activity," Tucson Police Chief Roberto VillaseΓ±or said in a statement.
Police also identified at least one number used by an offshoot operation, Daisy's Delights, which is believed to have been operated by a former employee of By Spanish.
Information stored in the phones associated with By Spanish and Daisy's Delights include names, nicknames and phone numbers as well as some addresses and notes about clients.
Seven Tucson Police Department officers are under a separate investigation by the Arizona Department of Public Safety for their possible involvement with what police are calling a criminal enterprise. Authorities have not disclosed the nature of their involvement.
A total of 14 men - including two Davis-Monthan airmen, two Border Patrol agents, three firefighters, a teacher and a pastor β have been named as the most frequent customers of the brothels.
The Arizona Daily Star is not releasing the list of names and phone numbers as no one on it has been arrested or charged with a crime.
