Man arrested again
for performing liposuctions

A Tucson man accused of performing liposuction procedures from his northwest-side home without a medical license was arrested over the weekend.

Deputies investigating a report of suspicious activity Saturday evening learned Gustavo Nuñez, 51, performed the fat-removal procedure on multiple victims from his home in the 8600 block of North Bobby Jones Drive, near North Shannon and West Overton Road near the Omni Tucson National Golf Resort, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.

Nuñez was booked into the Pima County jail on suspicion of two counts of practicing medicine without a license, the department said.

Nuñez and Ilda Garcia were previously arrested in August of 2013 on felony charges, including possession of dangerous drugs and practicing medicine without a license, according to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

The charges stemmed from a three-month investigation conducted by the DEA’s Tactical Diversion Squad, which includes officers from the Tucson and South Tucson police departments.

An investigation uncovered evidence that Nuñez performed illegal medical procedures at his clinic known as NuTec, located in an industrial warehouse at 1656 N. 15th Ave. the agency said.

Woman killed in ATV crash

A 38-year-old woman was killed late Saturday after crashing her ATV into a mailbox in Picture Rocks.

Geneva McClean had just left a birthday party and was driving southbound on Ellexson Drive when she crashed head-on into a brick mailbox near the intersection with West Ina Road around 11:30 p.m., the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.

Deputies performed life-saving measures on McClean until crews from the Picture Rocks Fire Department arrived and took her to a trauma center where she was pronounced dead, the release said.

Investigators with the sheriff’s traffic unit believe alcohol may have been a factor in the crash and McClean was not wearing a helmet.
