A man was arrested and is facing a second-degree murder charge in the slaying of a woman Monday, police said.

Christopher Raboin, 52, was booked into the Pima County jail on suspicion of the murder charge in connection with a domestic violence assault in the 2500 block of East Richards Place, near North Tucson Boulevard and East Prince Road, said Sgt. Kimberly Bay, a Tucson Police Department spokeswoman, on Wednesday.

On Monday at about 4:30 a.m., police responded to an initial report of a burglary in progress at the Richards address. As police arrived, a person pointed to a Cadillac Escalade that was leaving the house, and officers followed the vehicle after the driver failed to stop, Bay said.

Meanwhile, officers entered the house and found an unresponsive woman with obvious signs of trauma. Officers tended to the woman and called for Tucson Fire Department paramedics who continued treatment. The woman was pronounced deceased at the scene. She was identified as Rosalia Gilbert, 46, said Bay.

The officers following the Escalade were notified of the findings inside the house and pursued the vehicle, which stopped on North Oracle Road, north of East River Road. Raboin was taken into custody.

Homicide detectives determined that Gilbert and Raboin were in a relationship, and Raboin had been at the house since Sunday. Detectives learned that Raboin assaulted Gilbert, and the assault led to her death, Bay said.
