One person was killed and another seriously injured in an overnight motorcycle crash in the area of West Twin Peaks Road and I-10, authorities said.

43-year old Robert Charles Looney was pronounced dead at the scene.

Northwest Fire responded to reports of a motorcycle collision with injuries just after 1:30 a.m., near Jena Ray Place and West Twin Peaks Road, a department news release said.

Upon arrival, fire crews learned that the motorcycle had lost control and was the only vehicle involved.Β

Looney's 44-year-old wife, who was a passenger, was transported to a local hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Neither one of the riders were wearing helmets, the news release said.

As a result of the crash, Twin Peaks Road east of I-10 was closed in both directions for at least three hours.

Marana police have determined that the motorcycle hit the median in the road after failing to negotiated a curve in the roadway, said department spokesman Sergeant Chris Warren.
