The 35-year-old motorcyclist killed in a Monday night crash on the east side has been identified as Damian Whitelow, police said.

Whitelow, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead on the scene, according to a post on the Tucson Police Department's Facebook page.

Just after 7:30 p.m., officers responded to a collision on East 22nd Street and South Turquoise Vista, involving a Honda motorcycle and a Chevrolet Silverado truck.

Evidence at the scene and witness interviews indicated that the motorcycle was traveling eastbound on 22nd Street in the curb laneΒ at a high rate of speed.

The truck was headed westbound on 22nd Street, making a southbound turn onto South Turquoise Vista, when the motorcycle struck the side of the truck and caught on fire, the post said.

Witnesses extinguished the fire, but Tucson Fire crews told police that he was deceased at the scene.

Detectives have since learned that the motorcycle was reported stolen on Sunday. The investigation is ongoing, to determine if drug or alcohol impairment by the motorcyclist was a factor in the collision, according to the post.

The driver of the truck displayed no signs of impairment, police said.
