A U.S. Border Patrol agent was arrested in Tucson Monday on charges of sexual exploitation of a minor, possession of child pornography and lewd acts with a minor.ย
Alejandro Covarrubias Dominguez was charged with seven felony counts. He resigned since the arrest and is no longer an employee of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, according to a CBP spokesman.ย
The agency said its internal affairs office and the Border Patrol's Tucson Sector are cooperating with the Riverside County Sheriff's Department in California following the arrest of Covarrubias Dominguez.ย
In September, authorities began investigating a child molestation case in the city of Jurupa Valley, California, which led to an arrest warrant for Covarrubias Dominguez.
On Monday, Pima County Sheriff's Department deputies arrested Covarrubias Dominguez, and he is awaiting extradition to Riverside County, authorities said.
