Former Arizona Gov. Fife Symington has put his political weight behind former Cold Stone Creamery CEO Doug Ducey.

The announcement backing the Republican gubernatorial candidate came out in a letter to his supporters and business community leaders, with Symington touting the current State Treasurer’s experience.

β€œDoug has a clear vision about where he wants to lead the state. His focus is the economy and making Arizona a magnet for job creation and economic opportunity. That has to be the number one priority for our next governor, and Doug has the right background, skills, and ideas to actually make a difference,” Symington said. in the letter.

Symington served as Governor from 1991 to 1997, but resigned in 1997 amid allegations that he defrauded investors as a real estate developer in the 1980s.

He was convicted on several charges, however, those convictions were overturned by the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in 1999.
