Eegee's

It's Eegee's, dummy!

Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild asked Eegee's for help to beat the heat this week as the city faces record high temperatures.

His request? Release the popular flavor of the month, watermelon, a few days early for customers. The mayor's request did not go unheeded, with an Eegee's official replying that a limited amount of the watermelon-flavored frozen treat would be available by Thursday in Tucson restaurants.

"As a long-time local restaurant with an iconic product β€” the Eegee,"Β  the mayor said. "(I am asking them) to provide to our citizens as they often do in the summer one of the most popular drinks in the community β€” which is the watermelon Eegees."

"When it gets as hot as it is, the demand for watermelon Eegee goes almost as high as the thermometer, and I am asking that Eegee's put out β€” early perhaps β€” in the interest for the good of the Tucson public the watermelon Eegee's," he said Wednesday afternoon.Β

The mayor received an email from Don Weymer, the COO of Eegee's, which said the company would have "very limited supplies" of watermelon available in Tucson restaurants by Thursday.

"We agree, it's too hot not to have that in the stores, and overnight we made it happen," Weymer wrote the mayor.
