After two days of nearly record-breaking heat, Tucson sizzled on Sunday, reaching 110 degrees to surpass the previous record set for June 5.
The old record of 108 degrees, set in 1990, was broken around 1:30 p.m., when Tucson International Airport recorded a high of 109, according to the National Weather Service office in Tucson.
Douglas also reported a heat record of 104 degrees, barely exceeding its high of 103, set in 2014.
An excessive-heat warning was issued for most of Arizona during the weekend, with Tucson reaching 107 degrees on Friday and 111 on Saturday.
Phoenix broke heat records three days in a row, topping out at 113 degrees on Friday, 115 on Saturday and 113 on Sunday.
Saturday was also the earliest in the year that Phoenix reached 115 degrees, breaking the record set on June 7, 1985, according to the National Weather Service Phoenix.
The heat warning continues into Monday, with a high of 111 expected for Tucson, along with gusty winds in the afternoon.
The record high for June 6 is 107, which was set in 1990.
Tucson will cool off slightly, returning to normal temps by the middle of the week.
