The temperature Monday climbed to 111 degrees in Tucson โ breaking the record of 108 degrees set on this date in 1912, according to the National Weather Service.
It hit 111 degrees at 2:40 p.m. at Tucson International Airport, which is where the weather service records the official temperature.
A forecast from the Tucson office of the National Weather Service says temperatures will continue to drop closer to normal as the week goes on.
And it says isolated thunderstorms are possible in the area Thursday and Friday.
Tucsonโs excessive-heat warning is set to end at 7 p.m.
Phoenix tied its record at 110 degrees Monday at Sky Harbor International Airport, according to the weather service. It set that record June 6, 2013. The normal high temperature in Arizona's most populous city for the date is 102.
Phoenix hit 113 degrees on Sunday. The previous June 5 record was 112 degrees in 1990.
