lights and sirens

One man was killed in a one-car crash early Saturday on Interstate 10 northwest of Tucson that was followed by two unrelated wrecks nearby that resulted in no injuries, officials say.

Just after 5 a.m., the man crashed into the cables in the median of I-10 between the Avra Valley and Twin Peaks exits, Capt. Brian Keeley of Northwest Fire District said in a news release.

He died later at a hospital. State troopers are investigating, Keeley said.

Crews were cleaning up that wreck, he says, when two vehicles crashed nearby. No one was injured and trippers were investigating.

The third crash happened minutes later on westbound on I-10 near Avra Valley Road when a rear tire fell off a vehicle. The car spun several times before it stopped, facing oncoming traffic. No one was injured, Keeley said.
