Two people were arrested in Nogales, accused of drug smuggling, officials say. One man had packages of drugs taped to his calves.

Two people were arrested by border officers last week after attempting to smuggle methamphetamine and heroin into the United States, officials say.

On Friday morning, a 31-year-old woman was pulled over for further inspection at Arizona's Port of Entry in Nogales, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection news release said.

The customs officers found more than 3 pounds of heroin wrapped around the woman's chest. The heroin is valued at nearly $54,000, the release shows.

The following day, a drug dog alerted officers to a scent in the vehicle of a 28-year-old man. Agents were able to find three packages of heroin taped to the man's calves. He also had a smaller package of meth near his waist. The total value of the drugs was estimated at $21,200, the release says.

The drugs and the vehicle were seized, according to the release.

It is unclear if the incidents are related.
