Tucson Police at the scene where two men were hit and killed lake-side at Christopher Columbus Park, 4600 N. Silverbell Road, on June 2, 2017, in Tucson.

Two men who were fishing at Silverbell Lake on the west side were struck and killed by a vehicle Friday afternoon.

The two were at Christopher Columbus Regional Park when they were struck, said a Tucson Fire Department spokesman.

Tucson Fire Capt. Julian Herrera said both victims have died and the incident is being investigated by the Tucson Police Department.

The incident happened around noon at the park, which includes Silverbell Lake, a popular fishing spot. The park is at 4600 N. Silverbell Road near West Sweetwater Drive.

Sgt. Kimberly Bay, a Tucson Police Department spokeswoman, said police detectives were in the initial stages of the investigation to determine what happened.

She said the driver remained at the scene. The two victims are adult males, she said.

Police had taped off an area by the lake bank and there were several vehicles inside the police tape.
