Border Patrol agents found a half-ton of marijuana abandoned in a rural area east of Nogales on Monday.
The bundled drugs were worth about $550,000, according to a news release from Customs and Border Protection.
The agency said a Border Patrol K-9 team was patrolling a rural mountain road east of Nogales and found foot prints along a known smuggling route. The team followed the foot prints to a wooded area a few miles away.
Agents searched the area and found 24 bundles of marijuana weighing about 1,100 pounds. No smugglers were found.
The agents transported the marijuana to the Nogales Station for processing.
