A 73-year-old Arizona man died after being stung during a bee swarm while he and others cleaned up scrap piles in Cochise County, officials say.
The Duncan man's 43-year-old son was stopped by a deputy who was responding to a 911 call about the bee attack Friday afternoon. He told the deputy he was trying to get help for his father, who was in the back seat and was allergic to bee stings, according to a Cochise County Sheriff's Department news release.
The deputy was stung by bees in the vehicle while performing CPR.
The deputy had the son roll down the windows and drive a short distance to meet a fire crew from San Simon, east of Willcox.
The elder man died from his injuries.
The 43-year-old son from Animas, New Mexico, was flown to a Tucson hospital, along with a third man who was part of the group.
The deputy was also treated for multiple bee stings, the release said.
