The U.S. Army Garrison Fort Huachuca on Friday held a change of command ceremony recognizing outgoing commander Col. John Ives and welcoming Col. Mike Childs as its new leader.

Keeping with tradition, the ceremony included a dramatic, 1880s-style pistol charge down the Brown Parade Field by Fort Huachuca’s historic cavalry unit, B Troop, 4th U.S. Cavalry (Memorial).

The Fort Huachuca garrison commander acts much like a city manager, responsible for running such diverse operations as emergency services, utilities and recreation facilities.

William Kidd, director of U.S. Army Installation Management Command-Training, was on hand to host the ceremony.

Retired Army Staff Sgt. Christopher Liby and his family walk through their new home Wednesday. The family was given the keys to the home in Vail through the Pulte Homes Built to Honor Program, that recognizes military personnel who have been injured in service.
