Authorities have publicly identified an armed robbery suspect shot and killed by a Tucson police officer Monday.

Mark Powell, 39, died at a hospital shortly after police said he held up a check-cashing store and pulled out a handgun during a confrontation with officers who responded.

Tucson Police Department has yet to identify the officer involved in the incident that unfolded around 9 a.m. Monday at Ace Cash Express on East Fort Lowell Road near North First Avenue.

TPD’s Office of Professional Standards is conducting an administrative investigation to review police handling of the situation. Such reviews are standard protocol in all officer-involved shootings, the department said in a Facebook post.

TPD’s Critical Incident Review Board also will evaluate the police response.
