Tucson police are investigating a Friday afternoon drive-by shooting that left one man dead and another seriously injured.

A 51-year-old man was talking to his two adult sons in front of a house on Tucson’s east side Friday afternoon when police say he was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting.

New details of the shooting that left Jesus Castro dead were released Saturday.

Castro was in his pickup truck talking to his sons a home in the 8100 block of East 20th Street, near East 22nd Street and South Pantano Road, when a vehicle pulled up next to the truck and the occupants opened fire with an assault rife and a handgun, said Sgt. Pete Dugan, a police spokesman.

The shooters raced away before police arrived.

Castro and one of his sons were shot, but the second son was not hit, police said.

Castro died at the hospital and his son, who is in 20s, is hospitalized in stable condition, police said.

Dugan says the shooting does not appear to be random.

The investigation is ongoing.
