William Anguiz, Jr.

A Hereford man has been booked into the Cochise County jail on a variety of charges, after he fled from police during a routine traffic stop, authorities said.Β

Sierra Vista police attempted to make a traffic stop on William Anguiz, Jr., 31, after he didn't completely stop at a red light at the intersection of Charleston Road and Highway 90 bypass at about 5 p.m. April 30, said Corporal Tim Wachtel, a Sierra Vista Police Department spokesman.

Anguiz continued east on Charleston Road, driving into lanes of oncoming traffic and almost hitting several cars when he attempted to evade police, who were pursuing him with lights and sirens, Wachtel said.

The pursuit ended after Anguiz pulled into the parking lot of Crystal Creek Townhomes and ran from the car. Officers chased him to the San Pedro Apartments, located a short distance away, and witnesses assisted officers in finding him inside of an apartment, Wachtel said.

Police collected evidence in and around Anguiz's vehicle, and he was arrested in connection with unlawful flight from law enforcement, possession of narcotics for sale, possession of a dangerous drug, endangerment, driving on a revoked driver's license, possession of drug paraphernalia and reckless driving, Wachtel said.

Anguiz is being held in the Cochise County jail on a $150,000 bond, and is also on federal supervised probation.
