About 18,000 customers of Tucson Electric Power were still without electricity because of Tuesday afternoon's storm. Those customers were spread throughout the metro area, and crews were working to restore power as soon as possible, a utility spokesman said.

The late-afternoon thunderstorm brought more than an inch of rain to the airport while knocking out power to thousands of utility customers throughout Tucson.
The storm knocked down numerous power lines and had wind gusts reaching almost 80 mph in some places.
The rainfall total at the Tucson International Airport nearly matched a record for July 5, with the 1.02 inches measured Tuesday finishing just shy of the 1.03 inches recorded on the same date in 1952, according to the weather service.
Marana and Avra Valley also received heavy rain, with totals measuring between three-quarters of an inch and an inch, he said.
Tucson Electric Power said there were at least about 25,000 customers in the Tucson metro area without power late Tuesday evening.

Tucson Electric Power said there are at least about 20,000 customers in the Tucson metro area without power because of the storms. Numerous power lines are down.
The late-afternoon storm did provide some relief: The high temperature in Tucson went from 99 degrees at around 3 p.m. to 72 degrees at 5:30 p.m.
Nearly half an inch of rain has been recorded at the airport, according to the National Weather Service. Some areas of Tucson saw about an inch of rain from this storm, mainly on the far east and northeast sides.

Authorities have closed the intersection at South Campbell Avenue and East Drexel Road.
Two transformers have been blown and a power pole is down in the area, authorities said.
The intersection will be closed for at least three hours.
5:10 pm.
A wind gust of 77 mph was recorded at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. A gust of 49 mph has been recorded at Tucson International Airport.
There are numerous reports of power poles down by the high winds. Tucson Electric Power is reporting outages in the metro area, but no information was available on the number of customers affected.
4:40 p.m. Tuesday
A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Tucson and the surrounding area until 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
A line of thunderstorms was moving in from the east bringing the possibility of hail, damaging winds and heavy rain. The storms are moving in at about 15 mph.
The storm stretched from Redington Pass to Vail. Reports indicate the storm has dropped about an inch of rain as it has passed through the Benson area.
