The Benson Unified School District canceled Monday classes after a threat was made toward a school with the initials "BMS," which was thought to possibly stand for Benson Middle School.
On Monday morning, it was determined the threat was made by an eighth grader in California, reportedly aimed at a different school with the BMS initials, Benson police said on Facebook.
According to Benson police, the California student said the threat was a joke.Β Details about the threat were not immediately available, but authorities found no connection to schools in the Benson area.Β
On Sunday, Benson police were made aware of the threat, which is said to have been made on Instagram. The school district, along with St., David and Pomerene school districts, made the decision to cancel Monday's classes for safety reasons.
Classes are set to resume on Tuesday, the district said.
