The Tucson Fire Department battled a three-alarm fire Monday at a northwest-side recycling plant.
The fire broke out about noon at Friedman Waste Control Systems, near West Prince Road and Interstate 10.
Firefighters were still at the scene Monday evening and more trucks were headed there to make sure the fire did not flare up, said TFD Capt. Andrew Skaggs. In all, 28 units and about 75 firefighters battled the blaze.
One firefighter was taken to the hospital and was still being evaluated Monday evening, Skaggs said. Three other firefighters were treated at the scene for symptoms similar to heat exhaustion and released. No injuries were reported from inside the plant.
The cause of the fire has not been determined, but Skaggs said a possible cause could be an improperly discarded lithium ion battery.
