TUSDโs African American Student Services Department is hosting a parent session to share local resources for educational success.
The event will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. at Palo Verde High School, 1302 S. Avenida Vega.
Pima County Library staffers will lead a workshop on maximizing free resources, including the Brainfuse Online Tutoring program, which provides materials and practice exams for the SAT, ACT and GED tests and the reading program Achieve 3000.
Members of TUSDโs Advanced Learning Experiences office and several middle school magnet programs will also be there. For information, call 584-7500.
Amphi foundation sets Stuff the Bus campaign
The Amphitheater Public Schools Foundation is holding its annual โStuff the Amphi Busโ campaign this week, collecting new toys, clothes and food for district families in need.
Donations can be dropped off through Dec. 13 at the bus parked in the Ace Hardware parking lot at Oracle and Orange Grove roads. Collection hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the weekend and 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. weekdays.
Personal-hygiene items, gift cards and monetary donations are also accepted.
Apply for Gallego K-8 open enrollment
Gallego K-8 Magnet School is accepting open-enrollment applications for the 2016-17 school year.
All current Gallego students have the opportunity to return to Gallego, but others from within and outside the Sunnyside school district are encouraged to apply for open seats at the south-side fine-arts school.

Ford Elementary seeks volunteers for cleanup
The Tucson Unified School District is seeking volunteers to help clean up Ford Elementary Saturday.
The effort is part of the districtโs Adopt-A-School program in which community members work alongside district leaders to tackle projects outside general maintenance. The Dec. 12 event is from 8 a.m. to noon at 8001 E. Stella Road.
Work will include gardening โ trimming, raking, clearing up โ along with painting and picking up the grounds.
Shakespeare contest wants student entrants
Wanted: Competitors for the 31st annual Shakespeare monologue contest. The competition is March 5 at the University of Arizona.
The first 20 entrants will participate. Only a few slots remain.
High school students perform 20-line monologues from a Shakespeare play for a chance at an all-expense-paid trip to New York City for the national contest.
The organization putting on the event โ Friends of Shakespeare โ is also seeking members to help support Shakespeare in schools.
