A grand-opening event of the commercial kitchen at the new home of Sister Jose Womenβs Shelter raised nearly $200,000 for the 9-year-old nonprofit.
The shelter provides a place to stay for homeless women and recently opened at a new location on South Park Avenue.
Thanks to a matching $85,000 grant from Humberto S. and Czarina Lopez, Jim and Vicki Click and Rusty and Mary Garrett, the center raised more money than ever before.
The new Czarinaβs Kitchen will allow the center to prepare more than 30,000 meals a year for homeless women.
The kitchen was built with $70,000 that was previously raised, which included a lead grant from the H.S. Lopez Family Foundation.
