Quick facts about CF:

  • It's a genetic-based disease. "Unfortunately there are more than 1,800 mutations of the gene ... which means there is not a blanket pill that you can discover that will help everyone. The goal is to find a cure, but a priority is helping to improve quality of life for those living with cystic fibrosis,” said MeMe Aguila, development director of the Southern Arizona chapter.
  • These patients need financial aid because medical costs for a person living with CF average $30,000 a year, she said.
  • Banner-University Medical Center in Tucson houses one of 120 cystic fibrosis care centers nationwide, serving more than 150 patients and their families in Southern Arizona.
