Two Mexican nationals were arrested Monday during a traffic stop and deputies found eight bundles of heroin taped to the torso of the passenger, according to the Pinal County Sheriff's Office.
Jacinto Armentilla Canevet, 57, and Silvia Ramos Lopez, 53, were arrested on suspicion of possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics with intent to sell and transportation of narcotics with intent to sell, said Navideh Forghani, a sheriff's office spokeswoman.
Both were booked into the Pinal County jail.
The heroin, which weighed four pounds, had an estimated value of $150,000.
A K9 deputy conducted a traffic stop along Interstate 10 at mile marker 215 for a minor traffic violation.
Canevet was driving the car and Lopez was the passenger, Forghani said. Deputies noticed Lopez appeared to be hiding something underneath her shirt. Deputies found eight bundles of heroin taped to her torso and chest, said Forghani.
"You never know what a simple traffic stop turns into and I applaud our deputies for preventing these drugs from hitting our streets and hurting more people, said Sheriff Mark Lamb.
