The Pima County Attorney’s Office Victim Services Division is seeking volunteers to serve as crime victim advocates.

An advocate supports victims by going to the scene of a crime or other traumatic event and provides crisis intervention services and emotional support, according to officials.

Those interested in volunteering and learning more about the Victim Services Division must attend an information session Aug. 8 or Aug. 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Tucson Police Department’s west-side substation, 1310 W. Miracle Mile.

A crime victim advocate shares information about community resources and guides victims on their road to recovery and healing. Advocates are needed throughout Pima County, said officials.

For those who prefer to assist a victim in a courtroom, a new interactive court advocacy training program will launch this fall. These volunteer advocates will aid victims in navigating the criminal justice system and provide support at court hearings.

Volunteer advocates will receive extensive training. Crisis intervention and victimology training will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings for six weeks starting Aug. 29.

For more information or to sign up for an informational session, call 724-5525.
