Those who want information about the controversial health-care bill passed by the House of Representatives last week will get a chance Tuesday, May 9, to get it from a member of Congress.
Southern Arizona U.S. Reps. Martha McSally, RaΓΊl Grijalva and Tom OβHalleran have no plans for a town hall during the congressional recess.
But U.S. Rep. Ruben Gallego, a Democrat representing the 7th Congressional District, will hold a town hall in midtown Tucson to discuss the American Health Care Act of 2017. The event is being organized by the Arizona Democratic Party.
βMcSally put satisfying Donald Trumpβs ego over the health and welfare of 24 million Americans,β an invitation reads. βThatβs why weβre heading to her district with Congressman Gallego on Tuesday to rally Democrats to stop Trumpcare.β
It isnβt a mistake the event is scheduled in the middle of McSallyβs district, even though Gallegoβs congressional district includes parts of Phoenix and Glendale.
Several Democrats in Congress have scheduled events in competitive districts where Republican incumbents voted for the AHCA. Additionally, both Democrats and Republicans consider the two-term Republican McSally vulnerable in the 2018 election.
While McSally has been invited, spokeswoman Kelly Schibi said she is not expected to attend.
βIt is a shame that Representative Gallego is choosing to hold political rallies outside of his district, instead of spending his time serving the constituents in his own congressional district in Phoenix,β she added.
The email was sent out May 4, the same day that the AHCA was passed in the House.
McSally voted for the health-care bill, while Gallego voted against it, as did Grijalva and OβHalleran.
The town hall will be at Rincon High School, 421 N. Arcadia Ave., with the event set to begin at 6:30 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. The event is free to the public and admission is offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
