An early morning house fire was put out after a passerby reported smoke in a midtown Tucson neighborhood, officials say.
About 2:30 Sunday morning a caller told dispatchers of a column of smoke in the 4000 block of East Lee Street, near North Alvernon Way and East Pima Street, said Capt. Julian Herrera, a Tucson Fire spokesman.
A crew searched the area until the could pinpoint the address, Herrera said.
They then called for a full fire response and worked to cut through the garage door to get into the burning two-story unit, he said.
It took 23 firefighters about 30 minutes to put out the blaze in the unoccupied apartment.
No one was injured and the cause of the blaze had not yet been determined early Sunday.
