A Rural/Metro firefighter and a woman, who lived at a mobile home on the south side, were injured in a blaze Monday.

Both suffered minor burns and were taken to a hospital, said Battalion Chief Lee Mayes of Rural/Metro Fire Department.

The firefighter suffered second-degree burns, according to a post on the fire department's Facebook page shortly after 9 p.m.Β

The woman was outside the single-wide mobile home when firefighters arrived, Mayes said. He said the firefighter was injured battling the blaze, but he did not release details.

Firefighters responded to a mobile home park at 6001 S. Palo Verde Boulevard about 3 p.m. and found one mobile home on fire. The neighborhood is south of East Drexel Road and west of South Alvernon Way.

It took 17 firefighters less than 15 minutes to bring the blaze under control. The fire was contained to the mobile home, which was destroyed. A couple was displaced.

The cause of the fire and a damage estimate were not known, Mayes said. He said Rural/Metro and Pima County Sheriff's Department investigators were working to determine the cause of the fire.

No further information was immediately available.
