An honor guard kicked off an assembly honoring D-M Thursday at Coronado K-8 school.

Red, white & blue broke out all over Tucson on Thursday as schools and businesses throughout the community decorated their facilities showcase their support for Davis-Monthan Air Force base.

In a show of support organized by the DM50, participants tweeted and posted pictures and stories of support, thanks and encouragement on Instagram and Twitter at #SupportOurBase. Participating schools qualified for special recognition, a visit and a demonstration from top brass at Davis-Monthan.

Recently installed D-M Commander Col. Scott Campbell will select the top three schools that best show their support and will personally visit and recognize their efforts, organizer said.

Also on Thursday, Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild visited D-M to meet Campbell, commander of D-M’s host 355th Fighter Wing and personally deliver a mayor’s proclamation designating Davis-Monthan as β€œAmerica's Asset and Tucson’s Treasure.”
