BERLIN (AP) — The U.S. military says an Army soldier serving in the NATO force in Kosovo has died. The death of Spc. Robert W. Jones of Vail, Arizona, is under investigation.
U.S. Army Europe said Jones died at the Camp Bondsteel base in Kosovo on Saturday, Jan. 6. It gave no further details.
In the statement Tuesday, the Army said the 21-year-old Jones was a military police working dog handler who joined up in August 2015 and was assigned to the 18th Military Police Brigade in April 2016.
Arizona Governor Doug Ducey on Wednesday ordered that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset.
“Our state’s deepest condolences, prayers and sympathies are with Specialist Jones’s family and loved ones,” Ducey said in a news release. “We mourn the loss of this brave young soldier at just 21 years old, serving in the NATO force in Kosovo. We are forever grateful for his service and sacrifice in defense of America and our freedoms.”
