A 3-year-old boy is in serious but stable condition after he was struck by a car shortly after 3 p.m. on Saturday, authorities said.

The boy, whose name is currently being withheld, suffered several broken bones but is expected to survive,Β said spokeswoman Sgt. Kimberly Bay.

The incident took place in the Desert Shadows subdivision in the area of East Wyoming Street and South Greenway Drive.

The boy was playing in the driveway at his home with a ball while family members who'd been visiting were saying their goodbyes, Bay said.

The ball went into the street and as the boy went to retrieve it, the driver of the vehicle, headed westbound on Wyoming Street, struck the boy.

"The driver had no chance of avoiding the child," Bay said.

No citations were issued nor are any expected to be. The driver remained at the scene and was cooperative.
