Tucson Electric Power Co. crews restored power to more than 13,000 customers on the far east side Thursday, June 15.

Electricity was restored to 13,806 customers shortly before 5 p.m., said Joe Barrios, a TEP spokesman.

The outage occurred at 4 p.m. when an overgrown tree along North Tanque Verde Loop made contact with power lines and stared a fire, Barrios said. The downed line fell on other lines. Rural/Metro firefighters put out the fire.

Power was restored to customers living roughly north of East Snyder Road to south of East Broadway, and North Sarnoff Drive on the west to North Wentworth Road on the east.

Barrios said the overgrown tree would be trimmed by a professional crew.

He said homeowners who have trees growing into TEP electrical lines must contact a professional tree trimming service to cut back the tree.

Homeowners can call TEP to cut off electrical power at 623-7711. Once the trimming is completed, TEP will then go and restore power to the home, Barrios said.Β
