Riders will have their fares waived through the end of March, officials said.

Sun Tran, Sun Link and the Tucson Transportation Department will launch a new three-day transit pass pilot program on Tuesday, Aug. 15.

The program will provide unlimited rides on Sun Link street cars, Sun Tran buses and select Sun Shuttle routes for 72 consecutive hours after the pass is first activated on a transit vehicle, according to a news release from Sun Tran.

The new pass will allow riders to travel more frequently and to more destinations over three consecutive days. The pass would be an alternative to the current one-day and 30-day pass options.

The pass will be tested for six months, through Feb. 15, 2018, and will be evaluated to determine if the pilot program will be used by the transit systems on a long-term basis.

The three-day pass will cost $10, or $11 total when loaded on the GoTucson Transit app or $12 when including the cost of a new SunGo card.

The pass will be available online, by phone, on the GoTucson Transit app, at SunGo Sales outlets, ticket vending machines at the city’s three transit centers, Sun Tran Special Services Office or the Sun Tran administrative office.
