A Tucson man police were seeking in connection with the murder of his live-in girlfriend has been booked into the Pima County jail.

Joshua Hilaire, 21, was listed on the jail's website as being in custody. He's being held on a $1 million bond.

Tucson police said Hilaire walked into the downtown police station on Tuesday and turned himself in. He was interviewed by homicide detectives then booked into jail on suspicion of first-degree murder.

Family members of 18-year-old Rosaura Hernandez broke into the apartment she shared with Hilaire Sunday night, finding Hernandez unresponsive, said Sgt. Pete Dugan, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.

Police declared Hernandez dead at the scene.

Earlier that day, Hernandez told family members that she'd been fighting with Hilaire and asked for a ride from the couple's apartment, located in the 1200 block of South Craycroft Road, Dugan said.

A family member arrived a few minutes later, but there was no answer at the door. At about 7 p.m., officers went to the apartment but there was still no answer. About two hours later, officers were called back after they learned family members had forced entry into the home, Dugan said.
