Kartchner Caverns State Park β€” known for its spectacular cave and nearby trails β€” now has a new attraction for visitors: four rental cabins offering a comfortable alternative to the park’s campground.

β€œThe cabins provide something for people who want a camping experience but don’t have a recreational vehicle and aren’t too keen on sleeping on the ground,” said Glenn Schlottman, spokesman for Arizona State Parks.

Each of the cabins at the park, on Arizona 90, 9 miles south of Interstate 10 near Benson, has two rooms and will accommodate six people with a queen-size bed and two sets of bunk beds, Schlottman said. Occupants supply their own linens or sleeping bags.

The newly built, simply designed cabins have electricity, heat, air conditioning, microwaves and a mini-refrigerator but no running water. Showers and restrooms are within walking distance.

Renting for $89 a night, the cabins feature a covered porch, picnic table and grill.

Schlottman said the cabins became available on Jan. 23 and have already had some renters.

He noted that a cabin rental does not include a cave tour. Tours require an extra fee, which varies depending on age.

Other state parks offering cabin rentals include Roper Lake State Park near Safford, Dead Horse Ranch State Park near Cottonwood, Lyman Lake State Park near St. Johns and Alamo Lake State Park near Wenden.
