A motorcyclist, who died from injuries in a two-vehicle crash last week, has been identified as Jason Aaron Bake, police said.
Bake, 33, was taken to Banner-University Medical Center Tucson with life-threatening injuries after the Sept. 22 crash with a construction vehicle. Bake, who was riding a motorcycle, died the following day, said Sgt. Kimberly Bay, a Tucson Police Department spokeswoman.
The crash was reported shortly after 9 a.m. on North 11th Avenue and West Lee Street.
Traffic detectives determined Bake, who was riding a 2010 white/gray Yamaha motorcycle without a helmet, was traveling north on 11th Avenue. When Bake was approaching Lee, he failed to yield at a posted yield sign and crashed with the front bucket of a construction front loader vehicle, said Bay. The vehicle was in the process of making a left turn onto eastbound Lee from 11th Avenue.
Bay said speed appears to be a factor in the crash. Detectives also learned the motorcycle was reported stolen Sept. 18.
Since January, there have been 40 traffic fatalities in the city, which is the same number as of this date last year, according to police data.
