STK emergency

Seven people were displaced after a fire tore through two homes in midtown Wednesday afternoon, authorities say.

The fire was reported shortly before 4:30 p.m. in the 3300 block of East Bellevue Street, near East Speedway and North Country Club Road.

Crews arrived to find the fire had spread to a second home.

A total of 52 firefighters helped fight the blaze, which took nearly 50 minutes to extinguish, Tucson Fire officials said on social media.

Two people were taken to the hospital and were in stable condition, Tucson Fire officials said. No firefighters were injured.

The probable cause of the fire is linked to lithium ion batteries from electric scooters stored outside of one of the residences, Tucson Fire officials said Thursday.
