Breaking news

A 12-year-old girl was scalded with vegetable oil when a pan was accidentally knocked off the stove Thursday.

The child suffered first- and second-degree burns to her left arm and the left-side of her torso, said Capt. Barrett Baker of the Tucson Fire Department.

Shortly before 3:30 p.m., firefighters responded to the 1600 block of North Rosemont Boulevard, south of East Pima Street, for the emergency call.

Paramedics treated the girl and took her to a local hospital, Baker said.

When using the stove to heat up oil, try to use the back burners, and turn the handles of the pans in to prevent this type of accident, said Baker.

The girl's recovery will be painful, but she is expected to heal, Baker said. Β  Β Β
