Ajo Way at Interstate 19 will be closed this weekend, as will both off-ramps.

Ajo Way’s Interstate 19 crossing will be closed to vehicles and pedestrians through Monday.

The closure that started Friday is intended to accommodate striping and the installation of traffic signals for the new interchange, according to a release from the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Alternatives, like Irvington Road to the south, are recommended. The pedestrian closure is expected to be in effect for several weeks, and those looking to cross I-19 on foot will be directed to the Michigan Street pedestrian bridge, which is approximately half a mile south.

Eastbound Ajo traffic will have to exit to southbound I-19, westbound traffic will have to exit to northbound I-19 and the north- and southbound off-ramps to Ajo will be closed.

Work is scheduled to be completed by 5 a.m. Monday.

The new interchange configuration will also open that day.
