What: Ben’s Bells promote kindness and community involvement. Each week a person who makes Tucson better is “belled.”

Why: Waer crochets blankets in her spare time and donates them to various charities. She has donated blankets to Arizona Oncology, Casa de los Niños, Casa Colina, rehabilitation centers, family and friends. She does this without asking for anything in return, according to the nomination letter. Each crocheted blanket has a note saying, “Please accept this gift and may the blankets give your patients/clients warmth and joy with the love in which they were created.” The letter says Waer “pours her heart into her beautiful work.”
