WILLCOX β€” Two Willcox police officers shot and wounded a 69-year-old man after he fired at one of the officers, slightly wounding him, Cochise County authorities say.

The wounded Willcox man was hospitalized in Tucson for treatment of injuries that don’t appear to be life-threatening, the county Sheriff’s Office says.

His name wasn’t immediately released Friday.

The shooting occurred about 8:30 p.m. Thursday outside a home where the suspect drove after police attempted to stop him for driving without headlights on, sheriff’s officials say.

The driver first pulled over and got out of his car, but then got back in and drove off, prompting a police pursuit that ended at the home.

The wounded officer was treated at a hospital after a bullet struck his ballistic vest and was deflected, authorities said.
