A 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of shooting a shotgun at an Uber driver early Monday, Tucson police said.
Larry Nichols is facing three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He has been booked into the Pima County jail.
Tucson police said officers responded at around 2:15 a.m. to East Grant Road and North Columbus Avenue for a shooting call. At the scene, a man told officers that he was an Uber driver and was dropping off a customer in the 1900 block of North Madelyn Avenue. Shortly after arriving, a man fired several shots into the driver's side door and window of the car with birdshot.
The driver said he drove away with his passenger and went to a nearby convenience store where he called 911. The driver was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening wounds. His passenger was not hurt.
Around this time another man encountered a man in the 1900 block of N. Madelyn Avenue who pointed a shotgun at him. The victim ran away and called police.
Officers searched the area and found a man matching the suspect's description. He was taken into custody without incident. Officers found a shotgun and other evidence.
It doesn't appear the Uber driver or passenger were targeted.
